Project description

For the interior refurbishment of the vocational schools in Kehl, the Ortenaukreis District Office has commissioned PLAN FORWARD GmbH to provide the planning services for phases 3-9.

The vocational institution „Berufliche Schulen Kehl“ offers a wide range of vocational training in the fields of food, technology, business and administration. The school also houses a German-French vocational school and a business high school.

The building complex (building sections H, G, W and connecting building) was constructed in the 1960s. In the 1980s, the school was extended by building section N and repeatedly modernized over the decades, most recently within the scope of an energetic refurbishment including a renewal of the facades.

Deficiencies in the building fabric and technology of the school buildings were identified during several safety inspections. Therefore, the entire site will be restructured in the long term. The interior renovation of the main building (building sections H, G, N and connecting building) will be implemented as a first step in this regard.

The aim of the design is to improve the existing fire protection situation, to upgrade the rooms in need of renovation and to adapt the spatial situation to current needs.

An adjustment of the classroom sizes makes it possible to meet the current number of students. The administration wing and individual subject rooms will be relocated, which will also ensure accessibility to a proportionate extent. A new color concept and increased transparency of the rooms will make it easier to find one's way around the building.

During the construction work, the students affected by the respective construction phase will move into a temporary rental container building. This will be dismantled after the conversion of the main buildings. Completion is planned for the 2nd quarter of 2025.
