Project Description
The municipality of Rietheim-Weilheim has been planning the construction of a new dual gym and assembly facility for quite some time. In February 2019, it decided in favor of the architectural design of PLAN FORWARD GmbH, which was to be realized as soon as possible and with few resources of the municipality. The task had been previously put out to tender throughout Europe.
The J. & J. Marquardt KG, which has its roots in Rietheim-Weilheim, is strongly committed to social issues in the region and actively supported the realization of the project. It commissioned W+P, a sister company of PLAN FORWARD, as a partner to develop a concept for the tendered project.
The presented realization concept consisting of architectural planning, financing model and constructional realization as general contractor on behalf of the J. & J. Marquardt KG convinced the municipal council of Rietheim-Weilheim: According to this concept, the J. & J. Marquardt KG as owner leases the facility to the municipality after completion. In turn, W+P implemented the project as general contractor. The architects of PLAN FORWARD were responsible for the planning.
The new construction is a dual gym with divisible hall area and telescopic stands. The entrance level houses the foyer with checkroom, access to the bleachers, the approx. 100 square meter gym area with storage room and a small non-commercial kitchen area. The ancillary areas for visitors with bathrooms (including a bathroom suitable for the disabled) are also located here. The playing field of the gym is located in the basement, which also houses changing rooms with sanitary facilities for athletes and trainers, as well as janitor, equipment and technical rooms. Access to the building is barrier-free via the central main entrance.
Construction began in spring 2020. The completed building was successfully handed over to the community as scheduled in May 2021.
