Project description
A new single-storey building is being constructed to replace the current interim building to extend the Herbert-Karrenberg School in Neuss. PLAN FORAWRD GmbH has been commissioned with the general planning of the project.
The new single-storey building will be erected at the location of the vacant janitor's building, on the eastern boundary of the site. The boundary facing the neighbors will be landscaped. The building will be designed as a compact, single-storey structure with a flat roof. Barrier-free access is provided via the main entrance from the central schoolyard. From there, the central foyer provides access to all classrooms, music rooms and ancillary rooms.
The building is a timber construction (prefabricated timber element construction) on a reinforced concrete floor slab. The choice of this construction method not only takes account of the sustainable learning concept, but also meets the desired sustainable ecological construction method with reduced CO2 requirements and natural materials. In addition, the timber construction offers the advantages of a well-insulated thermal surrounding and a pleasant indoor climate all year round, both in summer and winter. Furthermore, the flat roof will have an extensive green roof and will be designed for a PV system.
