Project description
The interdisciplinary team of WOLFF GRUPPE realized the extension and refurbishment of the municipal elementary school Styrum into a 3-stream school with all-day operation and cafeteria for the city of Mülheim an der Ruhr. WOLFF GRUPPE carried out the general planning and was also responsible for the design.
Basis for the design is the preservation and overall renovation of three existing buildings as well as the extension of an annex and the addition of a new building. This was preceded by an in-depth investigation in the context of the construction task as well as subsequent feasibility studies exploring various pedagogical concepts. From several possible scenarios, a favored variant emerged, which was concretized in the course of further planning and thus implemented.
A new three-story building with a basement was created, which is connected to the existing building on the second floor via a bridge. The rooms for the “Offene Ganztagsschule (OGS)”, which can be used independently, are also located here. The first floor houses the new cafeteria for 150 students with kitchen and ancillary rooms. Additionally, a two-story extension with two classrooms each is being built parallel to the new building and will be attached to the existing building from 1958 on the eastern side of the building. The new building was created using a combination of modular and conventional construction methods and was move-in-ready at the end of 2019.
The next step was to renovate the existing building and finish the interior of the annex. The facade and the class and teacher areas were renovated with special consideration for pollutants. The building, which dates back to 1899, was gutted down to the foundation walls and then rebuilt. During the renovation work, the students moved into the new building and temporarily into the new extension of the neighboring “Willy-Brandt-Schule”, which was realized simultaneously – also by WOLFF GRUPPE – until the end of 2019.
Construction began in the 2nd quarter of 2019, in spring 2021 the overall measures (new building, extension and refurbishment) was completed.
WOLFF GRUPPE GmbH merges PLAN FORWARD GmbH, W+P Gesellschaft für Projektrealisierung mbH, and ARIQQA GmbH into a single legal entity under its umbrella, in accordance with Sections 2 and 20 of the German Transformation Act (Umwandlungsgesetz – UmwG). The business activities of the previously independent companies are fully continued within WOLFF GRUPPE GmbH under the business divisions PLANNING, MANAGING and CONSULTING.
