New construction of the cargo terminal at Strasbourg-Entzheim Airport
On the former military area of the airport Strasbourg-Entzheim (France) the air cargo center of the region Upper Rhine and Baden has been built, which is used equally by France and Germany.
In the center of the overall facility, PLAN FORWARD GmbH's design initially included a building for incoming and outgoing air cargo. The footprint of the individual building segments is spanned without supports by a steel structure in segments 40 m wide and 60 m long.
The buildings of the existing structure were renovated for freight forwarding and service companies serving air cargo transportation. The characteristic feature of the building is the building envelope made of aluminum with flowing transitions between the roof and the walls.
To support the largely natural ventilation of the building, wing-like profiles were installed above the roof skylights, which function according to the principle of the "Venturi effect" and give the building a distinctive feature that is visible from afar.
