Project description

The City of Essen has acquired the former Thyssen-Krupp administration building at Altendorferstrasse 103 in Essen as a new location for the Office for Social Affairs and Housing. W+P Gesellschaft für Projektrealisierung mbH has been commissioned with the general planning for the refurbishment.

The majority of the measures focus on energy and technical refurbishment. This includes the renovation of the heating, ventilation, electronics and IT systems of the 7-storey building. In addition, there is the necessary remediation of pollutants and an energy-efficient refurbishment with new windows and the renewal and insulation of the roof as well as interior façade insulation in order to preserve the appearance of the clinker façade.

From an architectural point of view, all three parts of the building will undergo partial changes in terms of use and materials. The offices will be brought up to the state of the art. By renewing the heating and electronics and installing energy-saving LED lights and a suspended, acoustically effective ceiling, both comfort and the important issue of sustainability are taken into account.

On the first floor and partly on the first floor, the floors that are directly linked to public visitor traffic will also be replaced with linoleum. The carpeting on the other upper floors will be replaced.

The Office for Social Affairs and Housing will move into ist new location on May 1, 2025.
